Kh. Khemchand Singh Becomes 13th CM of Manipur as President's Rule Ends
BJP leader Kh. Khemchand Singh was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of Manipur. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla administered the oath on Wednesday evening at Lok Bhawan, Imphal. Khemchand belongs to the Meitei community.
Alongside him, Lodhi Dikho from the Naga community took oath as Deputy Chief Minister. He is a legislator from the Naga People's Front. Nemcha Kipgen from the Kuki community became the first female Deputy CM of the state, taking oath via video conference from Manipur Bhawan, Delhi.
President Droupadi Murmu lifted the President's Rule, which had been in place for 356 days. The imposition of President's Rule followed the resignation of former CM N. Biren Singh on 9 February 2025 due to ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities. President's Rule had started on 13 February 2025.
