Ladli Behna Scheme: ₹1500 Monthly from October, Festive Bonus on Raksha Bandhan
The Madhya Pradesh government will increase the monthly benefit amount under the Ladli Behna Scheme from ₹1250 to ₹1500 starting this Diwali. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announced this during a media interaction in Indore on June 19.
He stated that the BJP had promised in its manifesto to provide ₹3000 per month to women under the Ladli Behna Scheme within five years, and the government is committed to fulfilling that promise boldly.
According to CM Yadav, the monthly payment will gradually increase to ₹3000 by 2028. The first increment will come this Diwali, where each beneficiary will receive ₹1500 monthly. Additionally, the government has announced a festive bonus of ₹250 as "Neg" on Raksha Bandhan, apart from the regular ₹1250 installment. Raksha Bandhan falls on August 9 and Diwali on October 18 this year.
Impact on the Government Budget
Currently, with ₹1250 per beneficiary, the state spends ₹1551.44 crore per month. Increasing the amount to ₹1500 will raise the expenditure to ₹1861.74 crore, an additional burden of ₹310.30 crore monthly.
Path to ₹3000 by 2028
The government plans to increase the amount by ₹500 annually during festivals like Diwali or Raksha Bandhan to reach the ₹3000 target by 2028.
Past Increments
- June 10, 2023: Scheme launched with ₹1000/month for 1.32 crore beneficiaries.
- October 2023: Amount increased to ₹1250 before assembly elections, beneficiaries remained 1.32 crore.
