Empowering Women: A Top Priority
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has stated that education, health, safety, and self-reliance of women and girls are the state government's top priorities. Various schemes have been effectively implemented to empower women and make them self-reliant. The "Madhya Pradesh Model" of women's empowerment is unique in the country and has inspired other states to adopt similar welfare measures.
Major Schemes and Budget Allocation
- ₹18,984 crore allocated to the Ladli Behna Yojana, benefiting over 1.25 crore women.
- Budget for the Women and Child Development Department increased by 81% to ₹26,560 crore for 2024–25.
- Self-help groups supported with ₹275 crore to promote entrepreneurship among women.
- Women helpline (181) and child helpline (1098) actively provide assistance to victims of violence.
- Ladli Laxmi Yojana continues to support girl child education and improve the sex ratio in the state.
Legal and Social Reforms for Women
Madhya Pradesh became the first Indian state to introduce capital punishment for rapists of minor girls. Stamp duty concessions have been offered for property registrations in women's names, increasing their economic strength. Additionally, the Freedom of Religion Act was enforced to prevent forced or deceitful conversions through marriage.
Women's Participation in Governance and Business
- 50% reservation for women in municipal elections and teacher recruitment.
- 33% reservation in police recruitment and 35% in other government jobs.
- 47% of state-approved startups are women-led, thanks to special incentives in the startup policy.
- Over 850 MSMEs led by women received financial assistance.
Support for Mothers and Children
Under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, 42 lakh women have been registered, providing financial support during pregnancy and promoting the birth of girl children. Over 81 lakh beneficiaries, including children, pregnant and lactating mothers, and adolescent girls are supported via 97,000+ Anganwadi centers.
