Madhya Pradesh Accelerates Growth in Renewable Energy
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that Madhya Pradesh is steadily advancing in the field of solar and renewable energy while reducing its dependence on traditional energy resources. In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2070, the Government of India has set an ambitious target of generating 500 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030.
Madhya Pradesh is contributing with full commitment to this national goal. Over the past 12 years, the state has recorded an unprecedented 14% growth in renewable energy, increasing its share to more than 30% of total power generation.
Speaking at the Global Investors Summit in Bhopal, the Chief Minister highlighted that Madhya Pradesh has a total power generation capacity of 31,000 MW, of which nearly 30% comes from green energy sources. Landmark projects such as the Rewa Solar Park and the country’s largest Omkareshwar Floating Solar Power Plant have given new momentum to the renewable energy sector.
Renewable Energy Policy and Investment
Madhya Pradesh is the first state in India to implement a technology-agnostic renewable energy policy, offering flexible and investor-friendly opportunities in solar and wind energy. The state’s favorable geographical conditions and abundant natural resources position it among India’s leading energy-surplus states.
Currently, five major solar projects with a combined capacity of 2.75 GW are operational in the state. The government plans to expand renewable energy capacity to 20 GW by 2030. Investments exceeding ₹5.72 lakh crore are expected to generate more than 1.4 lakh employment opportunities.
The Madhya Pradesh government is actively attracting investments worth ₹5.21 lakh crore, which are projected to create 1.46 lakh jobs. These initiatives will play a crucial role in achieving India’s 2070 net-zero carbon target.
Madhya Pradesh is rapidly emerging as a national leader in the renewable energy sector and is poised to play a pioneering role in India’s clean energy mission.
