Madhya Pradesh Moving Towards a Historic Achievement in Wheat Procurement

Officials of the Food and Civil Supplies Department stated on May 17 that the steady arrival of crops at procurement centers indicates a strong possibility that Madhya Pradesh will achieve its wheat procurement target this year.

If the target is achieved, it will mark the second occasion when the state procures such a massive quantity of wheat under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system.

Record Procurement During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Earlier, during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Madhya Pradesh had created history by procuring 121 lakh tonnes of wheat. With this achievement, the state surpassed Punjab and secured the top position in the country for wheat procurement at MSP.

Farmer Registration and Slot Booking

This year, a total of 19 lakh 4 thousand farmers have registered to sell wheat to the government at the support price.

Out of these, around 14 lakh 83 thousand farmers have already completed slot bookings for wheat sales at procurement centers.

The state government has extended the last date for slot booking until May 23 to facilitate farmers and ensure smooth procurement operations.
