Madhya Pradesh Set to Become India’s Solar Capital: CM Mohan Yadav
On June 11, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the state is fully committed to making India a global leader in solar energy. Speaking at the ‘Surya Mitra Krishi Feeder Yojana Summit’ in Bhopal, the CM announced that the participation of over 350 investors has paved the way for a potential investment of ₹20,000 crore.
The Chief Minister emphasized that Madhya Pradesh will contribute 100% toward India's target of producing 500 gigawatts of solar power by 2030. Projects like the Maheshwar Floating Energy Park, Rewa-Nimach solar developments, and 22 new solar units in Mohasa Babai will make the state self-reliant in renewable energy. Additionally, by 2025, all government buildings in the state will be equipped with solar rooftops.
He added that local investors are being involved in the Surya Mitra scheme to create new employment opportunities and dignified income sources. Over the next three years, 3.2 million solar pumps will be installed to ensure daytime electricity for farmers, reducing electricity bills and improving quality of life.
Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Rakesh Shukla, stated that the government plans to implement projects at 100% capacity across 1,900 substations. Investors will be free to choose central subsidies of up to ₹1.5 crore per megawatt and will benefit from a 3% interest rebate for 7 years under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund.
Energy Minister Pradhuman Singh Tomar highlighted that the focus on green energy will benefit both the environment and future generations. Senior officials Manu Srivastava and Neeraj Mandloi mentioned that the initiative aims to provide more solar power during the day and improve grid stability.
MD Amanbir Singh Bains stated that each 5-megawatt solar unit will require an investment of approximately ₹20 crore, ensuring affordable electricity and steady income for the next 25 years.
