On August 5, 2023, 26 sports personalities were awarded with the highest sports honors in Madhya Pradesh, including the Vikram, Eklavya, Vishwamitra, and Lifetime Achievement awards. The award ceremony took place at Ravindra Bhawan, where Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and Sports Minister Vishwas Sarang presented the awards to the winners.
The Sports Department had selected 12 individuals for the Vikram Award. However, one award, intended for mountaineering, was put on hold due to a court stay. Bhavna Deharia, a mountaineer, was selected for the award, but two other mountaineers, Madhusudan Patidar and Megha Parmar, raised objections and filed court cases. Megha approached the Jabalpur High Court, while Madhusudan filed a case in the Indore High Court.
The Indore High Court granted a stay on the mountaineering award. The award ceremony in Bhopal was scheduled for 5:00 PM, but the court issued the stay at 3:00 PM, just two hours before the ceremony. Madhusudan Patidar sent the court order to the Sports Department, which led to the suspension of the mountaineering award.
Both Madhusudan and Megha had also applied for the award. Madhusudan had successfully climbed Mount Everest in 2017, while Megha and Bhavna had climbed in 2019. The three had applied for the award, and Bhavna had been selected. The Sports Department began awarding the Vikram Award for mountaineering in 2021, and previous recipients include Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha and Ratnesh Pandey. Madhusudan's application was rejected due to the five-year delay in submitting it.
