Madhya Pradesh State Women Commission Appointment

Rekha Yadav Appointed Chairperson of State Women Commission After 6 Years

The Madhya Pradesh government has appointed a Chairperson and one member to the State Women Commission after a gap of six years. Former MLA Rekha Yadav from the Badamalhara constituency in Chhatarpur district has been appointed as the Chairperson.

Sadhna Sthapak, who served twice as an MLA from the Gadarwara constituency in Narsinghpur district, has been appointed as a member. Despite these appointments, the commission still does not meet the required quorum.

The commission has a total of six positions, out of which four member posts are still vacant.

Other Names in Discussion

Former Mayor of Gwalior, Sameeksha Gupta, was also being considered for the second member position. Initially, there was consensus within the party on her name, but her appointment was halted at the last moment.

The reason is believed to be her rebellion during the 2018 विधानसभा elections, when she contested against BJP candidate Narayan Singh Kushwah. She lost the election by a narrow margin of just 121 votes.

Political Appointments Across the State

The state government has made around 60 political appointments in corporations, boards, authorities, and other institutions.

The highest number of appointments (20) have been made from the Malwa region, including 9 from Ujjain. The Gwalior-Chambal region has received 18 appointments, while Mahakaushal has 6.

Vindhya and Bhopal-central regions have received 5 appointments each, and Bundelkhand has received 4 appointments.
