Madhya Pradesh to Implement “Viksit Bharat–Giram Ji Act” from July 1
The Government of Madhya Pradesh will implement the Viksit Bharat–Giram Ji Act starting July 1, 2026. Under this new law, rural households will be guaranteed 125 days of employment in a year.
The scheme is expected to boost rural livelihoods while also accelerating infrastructure development in villages across the state. With its implementation, the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) will be discontinued.
Key Features of the Act
Officials from the Panchayat and Rural Development Department stated that every adult member of a rural household willing to undertake unskilled work will be entitled to 125 days of employment in a financial year.
If employment is not provided within the stipulated time after demand is raised, workers will be entitled to unemployment allowance as per the provisions of the Act.
Priority Areas of Work
The scheme will prioritize works related to water security, basic rural infrastructure, livelihood infrastructure, and mitigation of adverse weather-related events.
This initiative aims to strengthen rural development while ensuring timely employment opportunities for eligible workers in Madhya Pradesh.
