Maharashtra Becomes the First State to Partner with Elon Musk’s Starlink
The Government of Maharashtra has announced a partnership with Elon Musk's Starlink Satellite Communications Pvt. Ltd. to establish satellite-based internet services across the state. With this agreement, Maharashtra has become the first Indian state to formally sign an understanding with the American company.
The state government has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Starlink for this collaboration. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that this initiative will make Maharashtra the first state in India to work with Starlink to provide satellite-based internet connectivity to government institutions, rural communities, and critical public infrastructure in remote and aspirational districts such as Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, Washim, and Dharashiv.
This partnership aims to enhance digital inclusion, bridge the connectivity gap in remote regions, and strengthen Maharashtra’s commitment to technological advancement and rural empowerment.
