Central Government Approves Key Schemes: Green Signal to Employment Incentive Scheme, Approval to New Sports Policy
The Modi government has taken a major step to boost employment, industry, research, and the sports sector. The Cabinet has approved the following major initiatives:
- ₹1.07 lakh crore Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme
- ₹1 lakh crore Research and Development (R&D) and Innovation Scheme
- National Sports Policy 2025
- ₹1,853 crore highway project (Paramakudi–Ramanathapuram National Highway four-laning)
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the government aims to enhance job creation, strengthen the manufacturing sector, and make India a global sports powerhouse.
Details of Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme
The ELI Scheme, approved on July 1st, focuses primarily on the manufacturing sector. The scheme has a budget allocation of ₹1.07 lakh crore and aims to generate over 3.5 crore new jobs in the next two years.
There are two components to this scheme:
- The first component targets first-time job seekers.
- The second supports employers who consistently generate employment.
Employers hiring new workers earning up to ₹1 lakh per month will receive an incentive of up to ₹3,000 per employee per month for two years. In the manufacturing sector, these incentives will continue into the third and fourth years as well.
Focus on Research, Innovation, and Infrastructure
To further promote innovation, the Cabinet has approved a ₹1 lakh crore Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) scheme. The goal is to strengthen India’s research ecosystem and accelerate technological growth.
The announcements were made following a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
