Electricity Bills in Madhya Pradesh Increased by 5.36% Surcharge
Around 2 crore electricity consumers in Madhya Pradesh have received a second price shock within just 20 days as electricity costs rise again.
After the new tariff was implemented on April 4, the MP Power Management Company has now introduced a 5.36% Fuel Cost and Power Purchase Surcharge. This surcharge will be applicable from April 24 to May 24 and will be added to upcoming electricity bills.
Earlier, this surcharge was in the negative range, which provided relief to consumers. However, it will now become an additional financial burden.
The surcharge will apply only to energy charges. For example, on an energy bill of ₹2,000, consumers will need to pay approximately ₹107 extra.
Higher electricity consumption will lead to a higher surcharge amount.
The fuel cost surcharge is levied when there is an increase in fuel prices used for power generation or higher costs of electricity purchased from the market.
This cost is passed directly to consumers under the rules of the State Electricity Regulatory Commission and is revised monthly.
