National Fellowship for Higher
Education for ST Students-2024-25
Objective: The scheme provides financial
assistance to ST students for pursuing higher studies courses of M.Phil, and
Ph.D. in India.
1. The candidate belonging to ST should have
passed the Post-Graduation examination for being eligible for the Fellowship.
The candidate should get admission and registration for regular and full time
M.Phil. / Ph.D. Courses in Indian Universities / Institutions / Colleges as
indicated below: -
a. Universities/institutions/Colleges
included under section 2 (f) / 12(B) or 2(f) and 12{B) of U*GC Act.
b. Deemed to be Universities
included under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 and eligible to receive
grants-in-aid from UGC.
C. Universities/ Institutions/
Colleges funded by Central/ State Government
d. Institutes of National
importance.
2. The candidates should have minimum 55% marks
at the final examination/grading at PG level.
3. The ST students once considered eligible for
the Fellowship shall not be entitled for any other scholarship of the Centre or
State Government the same study
4. The fellowship shall be payable once the
student has secured admission and started the research work.
Number of Slots /Seats:
1. The total number of fresh fellowships each
year is 750
2. In case of non-availability of adequate
number of Scheduled Tribe applicants, the number of fellowships not availed
during that year will be carried forward to the next academic year. There is no
State/University wise ceiling on the number of slots.
3. In case the number of applicants exceeds the
number of available slots for awards, selection will be made on the basis of
marks obtained in post-graduation exam.
4. Slots will be provided to sub-categories

Note-l:-Eligible students who have got
offer of admission in IITs/AIIMS/IIIVIs/IISER will be given priority and slots
meant for ST-Others category(Sr.No.4 above) will be reduced proportionately.
Note-2: -The students applying as
Divyangjan should produce the Disability Certificate, certifying minimum 40%
disability, issued by the competent authority designated by respective
State/UT.
5. In case adequate number of applications is
not received for the above subcategories, then the unfilled slots will be allotted
to eligible ST research applicants not covered under any of the three
categories mentioned above, on the basis of inter-se merit based on post-
graduation examination

In case a student has taken
admission for M.Phil./Ph.D. course in the previous year but could not apply or
was not selected for the fellowship in that year, he can apply for the
fellowship in subsequent year. In case a student is selected for fellowship in
2nd or subsequent year, he will be eligible for the remaining period
of the course duration. For instance, if a student has taken admission for a
course in 2020-21 but could not apply/be selected in 2020-21, and if he is
selected for fellowship during 2021-22, then he will receive the fellowship for
the remaining 4 years duration of the course.
Registration: The students may fill the
application through registration at https://feliowship.tribal.gov.in/
Applicable of Fellowship: The Fellowship is applicable only
from the financial year for which the candidate got selected. Ex-In case an
applicant joined in Ph.D. in Aug 2021 but applied NFSTfor 2022-23 and got
selected then his commencement will be from 01/04/2022 but the he tenure will
be counted from Aug-2021 to Aug-2026 (5 Years) and he will be eligible to take
fellowship only from April-2022 to August-2026.
