New Income Tax Bill unlikely to be introduced

The Central Government will not introduce a new Income Tax Bill in the budget session starting in the last week of January. The Finance Ministry has ruled out the possibility of introducing a new Income Tax Bill. The VK Gupta Committee, constituted for a comprehensive review of the Income Tax Act, may submit its report before the budget for the financial year 2025-26. After this, the committee will prepare a new bill based on the recommendations in collaboration with the Law Ministry. It will later be sent to the Standing Finance Committee. An official associated with the matter said that the committee is currently reviewing various recommendations received from experts and others. According to sources, the committee is considering creating a comprehensive schedule of tax similar to the Customs Tariff Act.
