New Online Gaming Rules in India Effective from 1 May 2026

The Government of India has issued a notification to establish the Online Gaming Authority of India (OGAI) to regulate online gaming across the country.

This new regulatory framework will come into effect from 1 May 2026 under the Online Gaming Regulation Act-2025.

The new rules provide relief to gaming companies by doubling the validity of certificates. IT Secretary S. Krishnan stated that the government has adopted a light-touch regulatory approach for the gaming industry to avoid unnecessary burdens on startups and developers.
