New Toll Rules for Overloaded Vehicles on National Highways from April 15

New Fee Rules for Overloaded Vehicles on National Highways Effective April 15

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has notified new rules for overloaded vehicles on national highways by amending the “National Highways Fee (Determination and Collection) Fourth Amendment Rules, 2026.”

The government believes these revised rules will help reduce overloading, minimize damage to roads, and ensure safer and smoother transportation of goods. The introduction of Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) technology will allow vehicles to be weighed while in motion, making the process more efficient and transparent.

These rules will come into effect from April 15, 2026, with the objective of controlling overloading, enhancing road safety, and protecting highway infrastructure. Under the new system, toll charges will be based on the percentage of overload.

Vehicles carrying up to 10% excess weight will not be charged extra. Vehicles overloaded between 10% and 40% will be charged double the base rate, while those exceeding 40% overload will be charged four times the base toll rate.
