Nitin Naveen Appointed BJP National Executive President

Nitin Naveen Becomes BJP's New Executive President

BJP's new executive president, Nitin Naveen, is the second person in the party's history to hold this position. The first was the current party president, Jagat Prakash Nadda. Interestingly, there is no provision in the BJP constitution for the appointment of an executive president. However, since 2019, this role has become a stepping stone to take over as the party president. In June 2019, after Amit Shah became the Union Home Minister, JP Nadda was made the BJP's executive president.

Nadda held this position for about six months before he was formally elected as the national president of BJP in January 2020. Nadda has now been serving as the party president for nearly six years. According to the BJP constitution, a leader can serve as president for two terms of three years each.

Reasons Behind Nitin Naveen's Appointment

BJP leaders suggest that the appointment of an executive president is an interim arrangement. Another reason is the Hindu belief of "Kharmaas," which is considered inauspicious. Kharmaas is set to begin on October 26, which is why Naveen was appointed as the executive president. After Kharmaas ends on January 14, Makar Sankranti, the process for electing the new party president can begin.

BJP has already completed organizational elections in 30 out of 37 states and union territories, which is necessary to initiate the election process for the party president. According to BJP leaders, the election for the president's post will take at least four days and can be completed shortly after January 14. While the election will be formal, Nitin Naveen's position is considered secure as BJP and its ideological body RSS emphasize consensus in such matters.

About Nitin Naveen's Political Journey

Nitin Naveen, 45, is currently the Minister for Road Construction in Bihar. He has also been a five-time MLA from Patna's Bankipur constituency. He was first elected to the legislature at the age of 26, after his father and BJP stalwart, Naveen Kishore Sinha, passed away, leaving the Patna West seat vacant.

If he becomes the national president of BJP next year, Nitin Naveen will make history as the youngest-ever BJP president, breaking the record held by Nitin Gadkari, who assumed the role at the age of 52.
