7 August- Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus appointed as the leader of the interim government of Bangladesh

Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been appointed as the head of the interim government of Bangladesh. This was announced by Joynal Abedin, press secretary of the President of Bangladesh. The decision of the interim government was taken during a meeting between President Shahabuddin and the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. The President of Bangladesh dissolved the Parliament and appointed Yunus as the head of the interim government. The names of the rest of the members of the interim government will be finalized after talks with various political parties. The 13-member team of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement went to Banga Bhawan to discuss the current situation in Bangladesh and the outline of the interim government. Earlier on August 5, Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister in the wake of growing protests. Mohammad Yunus is a social worker, banker and economist. He was born on 28 June 1940 in slave and undivided India. He was born in Chittagong, Bengal to a jeweler, Haji Mohammad Saudagar. After his initial studies in economics from Dhaka University, he went to America, where he did his PhD and started teaching economics. In 2006, Grameen Bank and Muhammad Yunus were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for eradicating poverty. Muhammad Yunus was called the 'friend of the poor' and the 'banker of the poor' for lifting people out of poverty.
