INS Arnala Inducted into Indian Navy
Visakhapatnam: In a major boost to India's coastal defense capabilities, the Indian Navy has commissioned the country’s first indigenous shallow water anti-submarine warfare (ASW-SWC) ship, INS Arnala, at Visakhapatnam Dockyard.
Designed for Coastal Surveillance and Rescue
The warship is specifically designed for surveillance, search and rescue operations, and low-intensity maritime missions. It is part of a series of 16 such anti-submarine vessels being built for the Navy.
Named After Historical Fort
INS Arnala is named after the historic Arnala Fort located in Vasai, Maharashtra. The vessel is 77 meters long and weighs over 1,490 tonnes. It is the largest Indian naval ship powered by a diesel engine and waterjet combination.
Built by GRSE
The ship has been built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) in Kolkata. The commissioning ceremony was presided over by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan.
Motto: 'Arnave Shauryam' (Valour in the Ocean)
The ship’s motto, ‘Arnave Shauryam’ or ‘Valour in the Ocean’, reflects the bravery and commitment of its crew.
