Panna Diamonds Get GI Tag – Boosting Brand Value
The precious diamonds from Panna in Bundelkhand, Madhya Pradesh are renowned both in India and worldwide for their quality. People travel from afar to mine these shallow diamond deposits. Now, the diamonds from Panna have received a special recognition called the GI Tag (Geographical Indication), which will further increase their value and significance.
Diamond officer Ravi Patel confirmed that the GI Tag will raise the international market price of Panna diamonds. GI, or Geographical Indication, is a symbol that links a product to its place of origin and highlights its unique characteristics. The application for GI Tag was submitted in June 2023 by the Human Welfare Society, Lucknow, to an institution in Chennai under India’s Ministry of Commerce, which approved it after thorough verification.
Panna – The Diamond City
Ravi Patel mentioned that with support from the district administration, diamond mining department, Madhya Pradesh government, and technical assistance from Padma Shri Dr. Rajnikant and the Human Welfare Society, Panna diamonds achieved this important milestone. For centuries, Panna’s identity has been associated with the precious diamonds extracted from its land, earning it the nickname “Diamond City.”
International Recognition
The GI Tag will provide Panna diamonds with a distinctive international identity, benefiting the local diamond industry. Panna diamonds will now receive legal recognition, their brand value will increase, and consumers will have access to certified and trustworthy diamonds. These diamonds are known for their light green tint and carbon lines, which make them unique in terms of cutting and brilliance.
