PM Modi Awarded Namibia’s Highest Civilian Honor

On July 9, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded Namibia’s highest civilian honor, the "Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis," in the capital Windhoek. The award was presented to him by Namibia's President, Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, at the State House.

This is Prime Minister Modi’s 27th international award as the Prime Minister. He also addressed the Parliament of Namibia, expressing his gratitude and respect. Modi said, "I am deeply honored to receive this highest civilian award. Just like Namibia’s strong and beautiful plants, our friendship has withstood the test of time. Like the national plant of Namibia, Welwitschia Mirabilis, our bond will grow stronger with time."

PM Modi further expressed his appreciation for Namibia’s contribution to India’s wildlife conservation efforts, stating, "In 2022, you helped us reintroduce cheetahs in our country, and we are very grateful for this gift. They’ve sent a message for you – everything is fine, they are happy and adjusting well in their new home, and their numbers are increasing."

The award ceremony marked the conclusion of Prime Minister Modi’s tour from July 2 to July 10, covering five countries: Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia. During this period, he received the highest civilian awards from four different countries.
