PM Modi in Ghana: True Democracy Encourages Dialogue
On July 3, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a visit to the Republic of Ghana, addressed the Ghanaian Parliament. During his speech, he presented a remarkable statistic about India's vast democracy that made many members of the Ghanaian Parliament burst into laughter, while some appeared astonished. PM Modi was also seen smiling.
While addressing the Parliament of Ghana, PM Modi said, “India is the mother of democracy. For us, democracy is not just a system; it is a part of our culture and values. India has over 2,500 political parties, 20 different parties govern various states, there are 22 official languages, and thousands of dialects.”
He further added, “This is why India has always welcomed visitors with an open heart.” His statement evoked laughter and warm reactions in the chamber, with PM Modi smiling in return.
