Ban on Reservation in Promotion Continues in Madhya Pradesh

The Madhya Pradesh High Court held another hearing on the reservation in promotion case. The state government presented its position on the new promotion policy and clarified that it would apply to promotions conducted after 2016. The High Court refused to grant interim relief and questioned why a new policy was implemented while the old one is still pending in the Supreme Court.

During the hearing on Thursday, the government explained to the High Court that the new promotion policy would be applicable to promotions after 2016, while those before 2016 would remain valid under the old rules.

The state requested the court’s permission to proceed with the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) and the promotion process. However, the High Court denied interim relief, stating that a final decision would be issued instead of a temporary order. The court allowed the government to submit quantifiable data in a sealed envelope if desired.

The next hearing has been scheduled for October 28 and 29. Until the final verdict is announced, the court has maintained the ban on the promotion process.
