PSG Wins First UEFA Champions League Title, Becomes Second French Club to Do So
On May 31, at Munich’s Allianz Arena, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) made history by defeating Inter Milan 5-0 in the UEFA Champions League final. This is PSG’s first-ever UCL title and marks the largest victory margin in a Champions League final to date.
Desire Doue Shines in Historic Final
Young star Desire Doue scored twice (in the 20th and 63rd minutes) and was awarded the Player of the Match. Other goals came from Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Seny Mayulu.
Emotional Tribute by Manager Luis Enrique
PSG manager Luis Enrique dedicated the historic victory to his late daughter Jana, who passed away from bone cancer in 2019 at the age of 9. He said, “My daughter Jana is always in my heart. She was with me every moment of this victory.”
Enrique wore a special T-shirt showing his daughter Jana hoisting the PSG flag as a tribute.
PSG Achieves Treble Glory
With this Champions League title, PSG also completed a historic treble—winning the Champions League, Ligue 1, and the French Cup in the same season. PSG becomes the first French team ever to achieve this feat.
Interestingly, Real Madrid, despite having won the Champions League a record 15 times, has never achieved the treble. Barcelona has done it twice. PSG joins a prestigious list of just 9 European clubs to have won a treble, with Manchester City being the ninth before them.
