Raipur to Become India’s First AI-Based Special Economic Zone

On May 28, Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, was announced as the site of India’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The project will be developed by RackBank Data Centers Pvt. Ltd. with a proposed investment of ₹1000 crore.

This high-tech SEZ, spanning approximately 6 acres, will include a state-of-the-art 1.5 lakh sq. ft. data center entirely focused on AI, computing, and internet technology. In the future, four additional high-density data centers with a combined capacity of 80 MW will be developed, capable of fulfilling digital needs across multiple states.

Chief Minister Vishnudeo Sai described the initiative as a “new beginning for New Chhattisgarh,” emphasizing that the project will open new employment opportunities for the state’s youth and strengthen Chhattisgarh’s presence on the national technology map.

RackBank CEO Narendra Sen mentioned that the data center will employ IT engineers, data specialists, network managers, and cybersecurity experts. The company will also partner with local ITIs, engineering, and polytechnic colleges to run training programs aligned with industry demands.

This AI SEZ will be built according to green building certification standards, incorporating solar power, water conservation, and energy-efficient systems, ensuring it is environmentally sustainable.

Youth from not only Raipur but also Kanker, Dantewada, Sukma, and Bilaspur will benefit from this initiative. They will no longer need to migrate to major cities or abroad for career opportunities. Global tech giants like Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Meta are expected to operate their AI systems from this location.
