Reliance Defence and Rheinmetall AG to Build Major Ammunition Complex in Maharashtra
Reliance, in collaboration with Germany’s Rheinmetall AG, will establish a large-scale ammunition complex in Maharashtra. This initiative is aimed at supporting India’s armed forces and contributing to the nation’s ambitious goal of achieving ₹50,000 crore in defence exports by 2029.
The rising aspirations and income levels of young India have encouraged companies to consider mergers and acquisitions (M&A) to meet growing demand. In a rapidly evolving consumer landscape, M&A provides opportunities for companies to gain competitive advantages.
Reliance Defence Limited, a subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure Ltd, signed a strategic agreement with Rheinmetall AG to collaborate in the ammunition sector. The partnership will focus on supplying explosives and propellants for medium- and large-caliber ammunition, as well as joint marketing and future collaboration on selected products.
Reliance Group stated that the new state-of-the-art facility will play a crucial role in supplying to India’s armed forces and supporting the country’s ambitious export targets. Rheinmetall AG, one of the world’s leading defence companies, reported €9.8 billion in revenue for 2024 and operates across 171 global locations.
Known for advanced systems like the Assegai M2005 V-LAP and SMART 155, Rheinmetall will benefit from enhanced access to critical raw materials and improved supply chain flexibility through this partnership.
