Rewilding to Balance Wildlife Ecology in Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh is running rehabilitation and reintroduction programs for the conservation and promotion of various species, including the swamp deer (Barasingha). These species are being scientifically re-established in their natural habitats.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has taken an innovative step forward by initiating the concept of "Rewilding." The objective of rewilding is to balance wildlife ecology, revive extinct or endangered species, and promote biodiversity.
This initiative by the state is expected to become a model for forest conservation across other Indian states. Rewilding means returning nature to its original state. For this, species that are essential to the ecosystem but have disappeared are reintroduced into forests.
This includes both predator and prey species. It is believed that in the absence of these species, the food chain gets disrupted, leading to an imbalance in natural life cycles.
