Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty Win First Singapore Open Title
Indian badminton stars Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, the former world number one men's doubles pair, captured their maiden Singapore Open title on Sunday after defeating Indonesia's Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in a thrilling final.
The Asian Games and Commonwealth Games champions showcased remarkable resilience to secure their first title in two years. The victory marked the duo's ninth BWF World Tour title and further strengthened their position among the world's elite badminton pairs.
Brilliant Comeback in the Final
After losing the opening game, the Indian pair staged an impressive comeback to win the men's doubles final 18-21, 21-17, 21-16. The victory also earned them their third Super 750 title.
Ranked fourth in the world, Satwik and Chirag became the first Indian men's doubles pair to win the Singapore Open title, making the achievement even more historic.
Ending a Long Title Drought
The Indian duo had last won a title at the Thailand Open 2024. Since then, they had reached four finals but finished as runners-up on each occasion.
Their triumph in Singapore finally ended their title drought and highlighted their determination to return to the top of international badminton.
Overcoming a Tough Opponent
Before the final, Satwik and Chirag had lost two of their previous three encounters against the Indonesian pair. Despite that record, the Indian team delivered an outstanding performance under pressure to claim the prestigious championship.
The victory is expected to boost their confidence ahead of upcoming international tournaments as they continue their pursuit of more major titles on the BWF World Tour.
