Shatabdi and Jan Shatabdi Coaches to Be Upgraded with Vande Bharat-like Facilities
Indian Railways is preparing to enhance passenger experience in trains by introducing facilities similar to Vande Bharat in Shatabdi and Jan Shatabdi coaches.
As part of this initiative, On Board Housekeeping Services (OBHS) will be implemented in Vande Bharat trains, similar to Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express services. However, the existing OBHS system used in mail and express trains will not be directly applied; instead, a standardized deployment policy will be adopted for premium services.
This new system may also be extended to Amrit Bharat trains and upcoming sleeper versions of Vande Bharat trains.
Following proposals from East Central Railway and Northern Railway, the Railway Board has sought detailed information by 25 November. A final decision will be taken after reviewing inputs from both zones.
According to the proposal submitted to the Railway Board, there is a strong focus on improving passenger comfort and service quality. The proposal suggests a standardized deployment of OBHS staff in Vande Bharat trains.
It includes appointing one OBHS staff member per coach, one executive housekeeping staff per train, and in sleeper versions, one linen attendant per coach.
These measures aim to provide a cleaner, more comfortable, and premium travel experience for passengers across modern Indian trains.
