Shubman Gill Equals Virat Kohli’s Record with Century in Delhi
India’s Test captain Shubman Gill is currently in sensational form. He showcased his class once again by scoring a century in the second innings of the second Test match against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
With this knock, Gill has matched Virat Kohli’s record of five Test centuries in a calendar year as captain. Interestingly, Gill achieved this feat in Kohli’s hometown, making the moment even more special.
This is only Gill’s second Test series as captain. He had earlier led the team during the England tour, where he also made a significant impact with the bat. Gill’s performance as captain has been stellar, with five Test centuries in 2025 alone—matching Kohli, who accomplished the same in both 2017 and 2018.
Out of these five centuries, one was a double century. Gill narrowly missed another century in the Ahmedabad Test where he scored a half-century. He still has upcoming matches in the home series against South Africa, raising expectations for more hundreds.
In this particular innings, Gill remained unbeaten on 129 runs off 196 balls, hitting 16 fours and 2 sixes, helping India post a strong total with ease and control.
