Indian Railways: OTP Mandatory for Tatkal Ticket Booking from July

On June 12, Indian Railways announced major changes in the Tatkal ticket booking process. Starting July 1, 2025, only Aadhaar-verified users will be allowed to book Tatkal tickets via the IRCTC website or app.

From July 15, 2025, OTP-based verification will become mandatory for all users. This change is aimed at making the system more transparent and accessible for general passengers.

Key Changes in Tatkal Booking:

• Only Aadhaar-authenticated users can book Tatkal tickets online starting July 1.
• From July 15, OTP verification on the registered mobile number will be required for all bookings (including counter and agent bookings).
• Authorized railway agents will be restricted from booking Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of opening:
• AC classes: No booking allowed from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM
• Non-AC classes: No booking allowed from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM
• The move aims to curb black marketing, improve passenger verification, and make Tatkal booking easier for the common man.
