Teachers Completing 35 Years of Service to Receive Fourth Grade Upgraded Pay Scale

Teachers who complete 35 years of service in the state will be granted the 4th grade upgraded pay scale. This long-awaited demand was approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on January 13, 2026. The eligibility for the upgraded pay scale will be from July 1, 2023, or later. 15,000 teachers will benefit from this in the current financial year, while approximately 1.25 lakh teachers will be included in the scheme. The decision will provide a monthly benefit of ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 to eligible teachers, including assistant teachers, teachers, and primary and secondary teachers in the new educational cadre. A total of ₹322.34 crores has been allocated for this purpose.

In the same cabinet meeting, despite objections from the finance department, a decision was made to provide a 50% discount on motor vehicle tax for vehicle sales at the Gwalior and Ujjain trade fairs. Department officials had argued that the Government of India had already provided discounts on vehicles by revising GST rates, and additional exemptions could lead to revenue loss for the state. However, the ministers dismissed this concern, stating that the trade fair’s main attraction results in additional sales, thereby generating revenue. After a lengthy discussion, the decision to grant the discount was approved.
