The theme of this summit is- A strong Global South for a sustainable future. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, discussions will be taken forward on various complex challenges of the world in the previous conferences. These challenges include the world being affected by problems like conflict, food and energy security crisis and climate change.
In the conference, the countries of the Global South discussed the challenges, priorities and problems of underdeveloped and developing countries, especially finding solutions in the areas of development. Like the last two summits, this conference will also be organized through virtual medium. The opening session will be at the level of Head of State and Head of Government, which will be hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The previous editions of the Summit saw participation of more than 100 countries from the Global South.
The Voice of Global South Summit is a unique initiative that envisages bringing together countries from the Global South to share their perspectives and priorities on a common platform on various issues. The initiative is inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas’, and is also based on India’s philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
Recent global developments such as the COVID pandemic, ongoing conflict in Ukraine, rising debt, challenges of food and energy security, etc. have severely impacted developing countries. Often, the concerns of developing countries do not get due attention and space on the global platform. Often, relevant existing forums have proven inadequate in addressing these challenges and concerns of developing countries.
The Voices of Global South Summit aims to provide a common platform to deliberate on concerns, interests and priorities affecting developing countries and to exchange ideas and solutions, and most importantly, to unite in voice and purpose to address the concerns and priorities. India will work to ensure that the valuable inputs received from participating countries in the deliberations of the Voices of Global South Summit receive due cognizance at the global level.
