Three New Judges Appointed to MP High Court, Justice Sachdeva May Become Chief Justice
The Madhya Pradesh High Court has been strengthened with the appointment of three new judges. On May 26, the central government issued a notification confirming the appointments of advocates Amit Seth (from Jabalpur), Deepak Khot, and Pawan Dwivedi (both from Gwalior bench) as judges of the MP High Court.
With these appointments, the total number of working judges in the Madhya Pradesh High Court has increased from 32 to 35. However, 18 out of the total 53 sanctioned posts still remain vacant.
The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva as the new Chief Justice of the MP High Court. The collegium sent names to the central government on Monday for appointments to vacant Chief Justice posts in various High Courts. Justice Sachdeva had taken charge as Acting Chief Justice on May 24.
All Three Appointed Judges Are from the Advocate Quota
- Advocate Deepak Khot: Topped his LL.B. from MLB College, Gwalior in 2000. Interned with former Supreme Court Judge Arun Mishra. Became a government counsel in Gwalior Bench in 2009. Serving as government advocate continuously since 2020.
- Advocate Pawan Dwivedi: Started practice in 2004 with Justice Jitendra Maheshwari (now SC judge). Acted as amicus curiae in key public interest litigations. Known for advocacy in cases related to food adulteration and solid waste management.
- Advocate Amit Seth: Currently Deputy Advocate General. His appointment had been pending with the Centre for the last 1.5 years.
