Toll Reduced by 25% on Partially Operational National Expressways

Toll Reduced by 25% on Partially Operational National Expressways

Travelers using partially completed national expressways will now have to pay lower toll charges. The government has amended the National Highway Fee Rules to reduce toll fees for users of partially operational national expressways.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways announced on February 12 that the revised rules will come into effect from February 15. The amendment has been notified under the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008.

Lower Toll on Partially Operational Expressways

Under the new provisions, if a national expressway is not fully operational from start to end, toll will be charged only for the completed portion, and that too at the rate applicable to a normal national highway.

Currently, toll on national expressways is 25% higher than that on regular national highways because expressways are designed to provide faster and uninterrupted travel. However, until now, users were required to pay the full expressway toll even if the expressway was not completely operational.

Revised Rule Valid for Limited Period

As per the amendment, if an expressway is not fully operational from beginning to end, toll will be collected for the completed stretch at the normal national highway rate under the 2008 rules.

This revised provision will remain valid for one year from the date of implementation or until the expressway becomes fully operational, whichever is earlier.
