Trump Postpones 25% Tariff on India by 7 Days, Pakistan Faces 19% Tariff
US President Donald Trump announced new tariffs on 1 August for 92 countries worldwide. These tariffs, which were to take effect immediately, have been postponed for India by 7 days. Instead of being implemented today, the 25% tariff on India will now be enforced on 7 August.
Along with India, Pakistan will face a 19% tariff, while Canada will face a 35% tariff starting today. However, China is not included in the new tariff list.
Earlier, the US had imposed a 29% tariff on Pakistan. The tariff on Pakistan is the lowest in South Asia. The highest tariff, 41%, has been imposed on Syria.
This decision follows Trump’s April 2nd announcement to impose tariffs on various countries, with a delay of 7 days for implementation. The original plan was to put the tariffs in effect immediately but was later extended until 31 July. Trump’s administration aimed to finalize 90 deals within the 90-day window, but only 7 agreements have been reached so far.
