UAE Exits OPEC, Opening New Path for Cheaper Oil for India

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced its exit from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its extended alliance, OPEC Plus, which includes countries like Russia. For decades, OPEC and OPEC+ have influenced the global crude oil market through coordinated policies.

The UAE is the third-largest oil producer in OPEC, and its decision to leave is considered a major setback for the organization. Following recent geopolitical tensions, including US-Israel actions against Iran, crude oil prices have already been rising, and the UAE's move may push prices even higher.

Analysts suggest that this development could have long-term implications for global diplomacy and energy markets. India is closely monitoring this move by its key strategic partner, the UAE.

India and the UAE already have agreements to promote trade in local currencies (rupee and dirham). With freedom from OPEC obligations, the UAE may now engage in more flexible and long-term oil agreements with India, potentially benefiting India's energy security and reducing costs.
