UGC Validates Dual Degrees Acquired Before 2022
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has amended its regulations regarding the validity of dual degrees. Now, students who obtained two degrees simultaneously before April 13, 2022, will also have their degrees recognized, provided these courses were initiated with approval from the respective university or council.
Earlier, in its notification issued on April 13, 2022, UGC declared that dual degrees earned prior to that date would be considered invalid. This created confusion and concern among universities and students. In response, UGC reviewed the feedback and clarified its stance during a commission meeting held on April 3, 2025.
As per the new decision, if dual degree programs were conducted with proper authorization even before 2022, the degrees awarded through such programs will now be considered valid. This change ensures that the efforts of students who pursued their education according to the prevailing rules will not go to waste.
UGC Dual Degree Guidelines (Post-2022)
- Students can enroll in two full-time degree programs simultaneously.
- Both courses must have different class timings if pursued in physical mode.
- Alternatively, one course can be taken in physical mode and the other through distance or online learning.
This update marks a significant move by UGC to address student concerns and uphold educational fairness.
