Ujjain Municipal Commissioner and Mayor’s Financial Powers Doubled for Simhastha

The financial powers of the Ujjain Municipal Commissioner and Mayor will be doubled for the upcoming Simhastha fair in Ujjain, the city of Mahakal. The state government has taken this decision to accelerate the preparations for the event.

The grand Simhastha Kumbh Mela will be held in Ujjain in 2028. As part of the preparations, the financial powers of the Ujjain Municipal Commissioner (Commissioner), Mayor, and MIC (Mayor-In-Council) have been doubled. The increased powers will remain effective until May 30, 2028.

For activities related to Simhastha, all financial powers of urban bodies have been delegated to the Mayor-In-Council and President-In-Council. The Mayor of Ujjain will now have the authority to approve work related to Simhastha costing between ₹10 crore to ₹20 crore. Additionally, the Mayor will have the right to inspect any building or premises without notice. This includes inspections related to rule violations, tax collection, cleanliness, and other inspection duties.
