US-China Trade Dispute and Tariff Announcements
On April 9, President Donald Trump made significant announcements regarding tariffs. He stated that, amid market downturns, the implementation of new tariffs would be postponed for 90 days. Concurrently, the United States has imposed a 125% tax on Chinese imports.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, appealed to Trump to reconsider the tariff postponement, while billionaire investor Bill Ackman advocated for a 90-day delay of the new tariffs.
China accused the United States of unilateral actions, protectionism, and economic bullying. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian remarked that prioritizing "America First" over international rules harms global production and supply chain stability, asserting that pressure and threats are not acceptable methods to deal with China, which will firmly defend its rights and interests.
