Uttarakhand Approves Regulations for Implementing Uniform Civil Code (UCC)
Uttarakhand has taken a significant step towards implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). On January 20, the state cabinet approved the regulations. Now, it will be mandatory for all people living in live-in relationships to register within one month. Additionally, marriage registrations after March 26, 2010, must also be completed.
The registration will be done only in front of a registrar. A delay fee will be charged if registration is not completed by the specified date. A six-month period has been given for registering marriages that took place after March 26, 2010. Those who have already completed the registration must also inform the authorities through the portal.
To facilitate this, the government has appointed separate registrars and sub-registrars at the Panchayat, municipal, and city corporation levels. On Monday, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the cabinet approved the regulations for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code after discussions in a meeting held at the Secretariat.
