Uttarakhand Cabinet Approves Transfer of Gauchar and Chinyalisaur Airstrips to Indian Air Force
The Uttarakhand Cabinet has taken several significant decisions related to the state’s development and strategic importance. Key decisions include handing over airstrips in Uttarkashi and Chamoli districts to the Indian Air Force (IAF), approving the state’s Green Hydrogen Policy, and simplifying the process of land acquisition for development projects.
The cabinet also decided to impose charges on groundwater extraction for industrial use, marking a major step toward sustainable resource management.
Strategically Important Decision
Considering strategic requirements, the cabinet approved the transfer of the Chinyalisaur airstrip in Uttarkashi district and the Gauchar airstrip in Chamoli district to the Indian Air Force. These airstrips will be developed as Advanced Landing Grounds (ALGs).
Based on mutual understanding between the Ministry of Defence and the state government, the airstrips will be jointly used for both civilian and military operations. This decision is expected to strengthen military preparedness and civilian aviation in border areas.
Green Hydrogen Policy and Education Initiatives
To promote renewable energy, the cabinet approved the ‘Uttarakhand Green Hydrogen Policy, 2026’. This policy aims to encourage clean energy initiatives and support the state’s long-term sustainability goals.
As part of efforts to develop Uttarakhand as an education hub, the cabinet also approved the establishment of a private university in Dehradun under the name ‘GRD Uttarakhand University’.
Decisions in the Interest of Employees and Tribal Welfare
In a move benefiting employees, health workers and supervisors under the Medical Health and Family Welfare Department will now be allowed a one-time district transfer during their service tenure, subject to mutual consent. A minimum of five years of satisfactory service will be mandatory for eligibility.
The cabinet also approved the restructuring of the Tribal Welfare Department. As part of this reorganization, four new posts of District Tribal Welfare Officers will be created in Dehradun, Chamoli, Udham Singh Nagar, and Pithoragarh.
