Vice Presidential Election Nomination Till 21st August, Election on 9th September
The Vice Presidential election in India will be held on 9th September, with nominations being accepted until 21st August. Jagdeep Dhankhar unexpectedly resigned from the post of Vice President on the night of 21st July. President Droupadi Murmu accepted his resignation on 22nd July. Dhankhar, aged 74, was serving until 10th August 2027.
According to reports, the BJP-led NDA alliance may field candidates like Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot or Sikkim Governor Om Mathur for the Vice President position. Additionally, the name of current Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh is also being discussed. Meanwhile, all parties within the I.N.D.I.A. alliance could come together to field a joint candidate.
