Vikram Singh Mehta Appointed as New Chairman of IndiGo

On May 28, Vikram Singh Mehta, a former IAS officer, was appointed as the new Chairman of IndiGo, India’s largest airline. He replaces former Chairman Venkata Sumantran, who stepped down after completing his five-year tenure on the board. Sumantran led the company for three years during this period.

Vikram Singh Mehta previously served as Chairman of Shell Group of Companies in India and held executive roles such as CEO of Shell Markets and Shell Chemicals in Egypt.

First Commercial Flights from Navi Mumbai Airport

IndiGo also announced that it will be the first airline to start commercial flights from the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, beginning in August.

Financial Performance Q4 FY25

IndiGo, operated by InterGlobe Aviation, reported a consolidated net profit of ₹3,068 crore in the fourth quarter of FY 2024–25, marking a 62% increase from ₹1,895 crore in the same quarter last year. This surge was driven by growing air travel demand.

The airline’s revenue from operations for the January–March quarter rose 24% year-on-year to ₹22,152 crore, compared to ₹17,825 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. IndiGo released its quarterly and annual financial results on May 21.
