Viktor Axelsen Retires from Professional Badminton at Age 32

Legendary Shuttler Viktor Axelsen Announces Retirement

Two-time Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen has announced his retirement from professional badminton at the age of 32 due to a severe back injury.

During his remarkable career, Axelsen won Olympic medals, World Championship titles, and several major tournaments, and remained World No. 1 for a significant period.

The Danish badminton star’s retirement is being seen as a major setback for the sports world.

Axelsen stated that his body can no longer support the demands of professional competition. He shared his retirement announcement on Instagram.

He wrote that he has been struggling with back problems for a long time, underwent surgery last year, and completed a long rehabilitation process. However, his condition worsened again in October.

Since then, he has been unable to train or compete at the required level due to persistent pain.

Axelsen further revealed that the decision was made after consulting his doctors and surgeon, who warned that further surgery might be required, with uncertain outcomes.

He concluded that his body is signaling him to stop, and he has decided to respect medical advice and step away from the sport.
