Vinicius Junior and Bonmati Win FIFA Player of the Year Awards

Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has been named the FIFA Best Men’s Player of the Year, while Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmati claimed the FIFA Best Women’s Player award. The 24-year-old Vinicius, who was defeated by Manchester City's Rodri for the Ballon d'Or in October, had skipped the award ceremony in Paris in protest. This time, Rodri finished five points behind Vinicius.

Vinicius, the Brazilian forward, attended the FIFA ceremony to receive his award. Aitana Bonmati, the Spanish midfielder, won the award after winning the Ballon d'Or for two consecutive years. She said, “As I always say, this is the result of team efforts. This year has been fantastic. I thank my club, my teammates, and everyone.”

For both awards, 11 players were nominated, and the winners were selected based on votes from current captains, coaches, fans, and the media. The performances considered were from August 21, 2023, to August 10, 2024.
