WHO Declares Ebola Health Emergency in Congo and Uganda
The World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has declared the Ebola outbreak in Congo and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) following the emergence of more than 300 suspected cases and 88 deaths.
The WHO stated in an official post that, unlike the COVID-19 pandemic, the current Ebola outbreak does not meet the criteria for a global pandemic emergency. The organization also advised against imposing international border closures.
Health authorities are continuing monitoring and response efforts to contain the spread of the virus and reduce further infections in the affected regions.
