Now every doctor in the country will have a different identity. They will be given a unique ID number. The government has made registration in the National Medical Register (NMR) mandatory for all doctors. Doctors will have to submit MBBS certificate, registration and Aadhaar card. This portal has been prepared by the National Medical Commission. The National Medical Commission had recently issued a notice. It read, all MBBS doctors registered in the Indian Medical Register (IMR) will now have to register in the National Medical Register (NMR) as well. All medical colleges / institutes, state medical councils of the country will also be connected to this portal. What is the process of registration on NMR For registration on the portal, doctors will have to submit their Aadhaar ID, a digital copy of MBBS degree certificate and a copy of the certificate received from the State Medical Council / Medical Council of India. The rest of the information will have to be entered by yourself. Once the form is filled, it will be sent to the concerned State Medical Council for verification. The State Council will then send this application to the concerned college or institute for further review. After verification, the application will be sent to the National Medical Commission. NMC will verify it and make it live on the portal.
Why is National Medical Register needed? According to an official of National Medical Commission, till date we did not have any data that could tell how many doctors are there in the country. Although, there is an estimated number, but the correct figures will be known now. Apart from this, how many doctors left the country. How many doctors' licenses were canceled. How many doctors lost their lives. All this information will now be visible on a portal. According to the official, more than 13 lakh doctors can join it.
Registration started on NMR, common people will also be able to see the data. National Medical Commission Secretary Dr. B Srinivas said, registration of doctors has started on the portal with immediate effect. Some data in this will be visible to the common people. The rest of the information will be visible to the National Medical Commission, State Medical Council, National Board of Examination, Ethics and Medical Registration Board and Medical Institute as per their requirements.
