MPPSC Interview Format Changed to Ensure Transparency
The Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) has introduced a new interview format for the State Service Examination 2023, starting from July 7. This change is aimed at increasing transparency and addressing past concerns raised by candidates.
Key Changes Introduced:
- The interview form is now a single-page document instead of five pages.
- Only the candidate's first name will be mentioned. Surname, caste, and category details are excluded.
- Mobile number, email ID, and full address will also be removed.
- Roll numbers will determine the order of interviews, not categories.
This change follows complaints from candidates of the 2022 State Service Exam who claimed that lower interview marks affected their selection for top posts like Deputy Collector and DSP. Allegations were also made that caste-based favoritism influenced interview scores.
Old Format Included:
- Application Number, Registration ID, Roll Number
- Full name with surname
- Father’s or Husband’s Name
- Date of Birth, City, District, State
- Category (Caste)
- Aadhar Number, Educational Qualifications
- Mobile Number, Email ID
New Format Will Include Only:
- A unique code assigned by the Commission
- First name only (No surname or middle name)
- City and place of residence
- Educational qualifications and additional qualifications
- Purpose or reason for joining government service
Why the Change Matters:
Experts argue that interview scores (worth 185 out of 1685 total marks) can significantly influence final selection. Even a 5–20 mark difference can determine whether a candidate secures a prestigious position like Deputy Collector or DSP. According to exam expert Dr. Jayantilal Bhandari, interview scores should not exceed 12% of the total. These reforms are expected to improve fairness and transparency in the process.
