लोकसभा ने तृणमूल कांग्रेस सदस्य महुआ मोइत्रा को 8 दिसंबर को ध्वनि मत से निष्कासित कर दिया। सदन ने ‘पैसे लेकर सवाल पूछने’ के मामले में अपनी आचार समिति की रिपोर्ट पर चर्चा के बाद यह कदम उठाया। इस रिपोर्ट में मोइत्रा को अनैतिक आचरण का दोषी ठहराया गया है। आरोपी तृणमूल नेता को सदन में चर्चा के दौरान बोलने की इजाजत नहीं दी गई।

उन्होंने अपने निष्कासन की तुलना ‘कंगारू अदालत’ द्वारा दी जाने वाली सजा से की और आरोप लगाया कि सरकार विपक्ष को अपने आगे झुकाने के लिए लोकसभा की आचार समिति को हथियार बना रही है।
